In the past, people knew many things that have since been forgotten, and every home was protected to keep evil at bay. Back then, very sturdy nails were used; when driven directly into the ceiling beams, they served to ward off illness and negative energy.
If you happen to find one of these old nails, the process is quite simple: fasten it securely to a small piece of wood and hang it—using a piece of string—just inside your front door (for instance, behind the door or on a small shelf in the entryway; it must be kept inside the home, never outside), positioned so that it is clearly visible upon entering.
